The Knights of Columbus, founded in 1882 by Fr. Michael McGivney, has become the
largest lay organization in the Catholic Church. This great organization of
Catholic men has as its basic principles: charitable works; serving the Church
and following it's teachings; supporting brother Knights; acting for the good
of their country; and giving aid to widows, orphans, the sick and the poor.
This is Father McGivney's dream which is living today in the hearts of his
brothers and all of those they touch.
Today the Knights of Columbus has some 1.7 million members in 13,000 councils.
In 2003, Knights raised and donated $130 million to charity and gave 61 million
hours of service to the Catholic Church.
Web site www.fathermcgivney.org
is devoted to the life and legacy of Fr. McGivney.
