When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap the very edges of
your fields, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your
vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them
for the poor and for the stranger." Leviticus 19:9 - 10
Gleaning is more than just salvaging or scrounging. It matches an abundance of
foodstuffs with an abundance of human resource to create better and more
nutritious meals for the ill, the homeless and the hungry. What the world
would quickly label 'waste', the Lord would use to feed the Body and Soul
of His people.

Nearly 80% of the food COMPA receives and gives is food which has "fallen through
the cracks" in our country's food delivery system. The food from COMPA feeds
about 7,000 families each week. A large part of this comes from literally
gleaning the fields of farms around the state after the mechanized harvesting
is done. If we don't collect this wholesome food, it will be tilled back
into the ground and lost. The farms generously give us a window of time to
collect this second harvest for needy families in Colorado. Some is
distributed fresh and some is canned. The food put up this way can help
feed families all winter through the food banks.
Agenda for September:
See the bulletin for date/times. We meet at St Mark then drive to
Compa Food Ministry Warehouse to receive farm destination and crop.
